'Relative restrictions', 2017. 180 circles pieces of orange plastic barrier. BAU, Viareggio
By employing the plastic net barriers regularly used to cordon off building sites, Carlo Galli has produced a series of pieces grouped together as the Barrier flowers suite (2017-present day). Once again the artist uses an everyday material to compose his aesthetically attractive patterns, though in actual fact these are visually seductive lures that will subsequently perpetrate a severe attack. Why not widen the holes so they could be penetrated not just by our gaze, but by our bodies too? Carlo Galli asks himself. Time and time again he challenges the validity of frontiers, proposing a model of coexistence that facilitates citizens' freedom of movement.
