'Solitaire', series 2014/16. Adhesive dangerous tape on wall. Pietrasanta / Wien / Viareggio.
Carlo Galli has explored the concept of luxury in his oeuvre. Solitaire (2014-2016) is a suite in which the artist has repeatedly depicted a diamond ring, an icon easily recognizable nowadays by society in general. Understood as one of the most powerful symbols personifying socio-economic status, a diamond constitutes an object capable of provoking hierarchized social distancing and, therefore, of generating incidents of inequality. Galli astutely uses adhesive warning tape, thus dimming the diamond's sparkles and stressing the feeling of distance.
